چکیده
This paper reports two experiments using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to investigate whether word-level lexical stress involves the left superior temporal gyrus (STG) a grammar classification task designed elicit typicality effect. Experiment 1 used text presented stimuli and, although was not able effect, found response times were significantly slower in no TMS condition compared when the, control, right PAR region downregulated. In 2, speech instead of and accuracy similar across all three conditions. A decision control evidence, from time analysis, that STG involved word nonword judgments. The discussion explores findings relative role cortical regions processing.

The Left Posterior Superior Temporal Gyrus Participates Specifically in Accessing Lexical Phonology
Impairments in phonological processing have been associated with damage to the region of the left posterior superior temporal gyrus (pSTG), but the extent to which this area supports phonological processing, independent of semantic processing, is less clear. We used repetition priming and neural repetition suppression during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in an auditory pseudoword...
متن کاملConduction aphasia elicited by stimulation of the left posterior superior temporal gyrus.
OBJECTIVE Disruption of fascicular tracts that connect Wernicke's to Broca's areas is the classic mechanism of conduction aphasia. Later work has emphasised cortical mechanisms. METHODS To determine the distribution of language on dominant cortex, electrical cortical stimulation was performed using implanted subdural electrodes during brain mapping before epilepsy surgery. RESULTS A transie...
متن کاملActivation of the left superior temporal gyrus of musicians by music-derived sounds.
Previous studies have suggested that professional musicians comprehend features of music-derived sound even if the sound sequence lacks the traditional temporal structure of music. We tested this hypothesis through behavioral and functional brain imaging experiments. Musicians were better than nonmusicians at identifying scrambled pieces of piano music in which the original temporal structure h...
متن کاملAn exploration of the role of the superior temporal gyrus in visual search and spatial perception using TMS.
This study sought to investigate the recent claim by H.-O. Karnath and his colleagues that the crucial locus of neurological damage in neglect patients lies in the right superior temporal gyrus (STG), and not in the right posterior parietal cortex (PPC) as conventionally thought. Using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), we first tested the involvement of the right STG in a task commonly u...
